Kryptonite, which includes Tracy players Mireya Magana, Tayler Lennier, Amber Lennier, Adaurie Dayak, Cailie Chayrez, Stephanie Pawek, Jessica Hufford and Grace Cabri, and is coached by Troy Dayak of Tracy, competed first on Friday, July 27, against CKF Black from Florida and won it 1-0 on a penalty kick from Regan Smithers.
Next Kryptonite played a hard-fought game against Match Fit Chelsea of New Jersey on July 28. Kryptonite coach Dayak noted that it was a physical game, with three of his players injured by aggressive play.
The team battled back from an early deficit to take a 2-1 win. Pawek placed a corner kick in front of the goal and Smithers scored on a header. Kryptonite scored again as Amber Lennier and Magana got the ball to Pawek, who hit a volley to get the game winner.
Kryptonite wrapped up pool play July 29 with a 2-2 tie with Washington Premier. Washington took an early lead and Kryptonite tied it up with Adaurie Dayak’s goal on an assist from Pawek. Washington took the lead again in the second half, and Pawek tied it up 2-2 as she dribbled past two defenders and fired in a shot.
The 2-0-1 performance in pool play put Kryptonite into the championship game against Internationals 95 from Ohio, the Ohio state and U.S. Club Soccer Region 2 champion. The Internationals team was faster on the field, taking a 1-0 lead in the first half and scoring again at the end for the 2-0 win.
Troy Dayak’s West Coast Wild U14 team, which includes Miciah Madison of Mountain House, went 2-1-1 for the weekend. Wild opened with a 0-0 tie against Match Fit from New Jersey on July 27 and followed with a 1-0 win over Tampa Bay United of Florida on July 28 and a 2-1 win over Eastside Premier from Washington on July 29.
Wild emerged as the top seed from pool play and played a rematch against Tampa Bay United, which won 1-0.
