Police Log: Man gets pranked

A caller tried to retrieve a car he left overnight at El Tapatio, 572 W. 11th St. at 8:34 a.m. Wednesday, Aug. 1, and found a steering wheel lock on it. He said he didn’t know how the lock got there. He called police back a few minutes later and said a friend put it there as a prank.

Tracy police received 178 calls for service Wednesday, Aug. 1. The following is a sample of those calls.

1:27 a.m.: Police warned a man about sleeping in his car in the Park & Ride, 2650 Naglee Road.

1:56 a.m.: Police arrested a 55-year-old man on suspicion of prowling around the 200 block of West Ninth Street. The man was seen going into one backyard several times. He was booked into San Joaquin County Jail in French Camp.

3:58 a.m.: A man was seen jumping out of a large trash container on the 300 block of Violet Place.

7:43 a.m.: Someone stole a catalytic converter on Monday night on the 1700 block of Bristol Lane, a caller reported.

2:37 p.m.: A woman was observed sleeping on the grass while two children ran around unsupervised at the Tracy Branch Library, 20 E. Eaton Ave. Police talked to the woman and found she was resting while the children were inside the library.

2:57 p.m.: Two women saw a man going the bathroom in public near the Post Office, 125 W. Ninth St.

4:40 p.m.: Police arrested a 24-year-old man for an outstanding warrant for driving under the influence on the 1600 block of Antonia Court. He was booked into county jail.

5:32 p.m.: A business clerk reported a customer gave him a counterfeit $20 bill at Tapio Café, 2251 W. Grant Line Road.

6:21 p.m.: Police arrested a man in central Tracy for suspicion of domestic violence. The arrest occurred after a woman called someone and told them her husband hit her. He was booked into county jail.

8:15 p.m.: A woman asked police to scare her sister after the sister punched her in the nose on the 200 block of East Mount Diablo Avenue. She said she didn’t want to press charges and that the sister left in her car. Police informed the woman that they were not in the business of scaring people.

11:33 p.m.: A caller saw three teenage boys and a teenage girl spray-painting graffiti on a wall on the 900 block of West 11th Street.
