Great Aqua Challenge & Duathlon

WHEN: Registration at 7 a.m., race at 8:30 a.m.

WHERE: Eagal Lakes, 12 E. Lorenzen Road

DETAILS: On Your Mark Events and Eagal Lakes Resort will host an open-water swim and swim-run duathlon. The Aqua Challenge is a 2.4-mile, 1-mile or half-mile swim, and the duathlon is a 1-mile swim and 5K run on Eagal Lakes’ trails. Entry fees include a T-shirt, awards and raffle entry.

COST: $40 for Aqua Challenge, $55 for duathlon, with $5 discount for all who register in advance

Sunday, July 29

Dirt, Sweat and Beers

WHEN: 7:30 a.m.

WHERE: Eagal Lakes, 12 Lorenzen Road

DETAILS: A 200-meter swim, 7-mile bike ride and 3.1 mile run will challenge athletes of all abilities. Families and relay teams are welcome. All participants receive a T-shirt and beer (or root beer) upon finishing the race, and medals will be given to the top three individuals and relay teams in each age group. The race begins at 9 a.m. following same-day registration at 7:30 a.m.

COST: $55 individual, $140 relay team, with pre-registration discounts of $10 for individuals, $20 for teams, before July 22. There is also a $5 parking fee.

Junior golf camp

WHEN: Tuesday through Friday, July 31 to Aug. 3

WHERE: Tracy Golf and Country Club, 35200 S. Chrisman Road

DETAILS: Shaun McCarty, PGA Professional, will host a Junior golf camp for youths ages 5 and older. The camp covers all the aspects of golf including putting, chipping, irons, driver, rules, etiquette and more. The camp concludes with a round of golf.

Ellis Aquatics

WHERE: Pinkie Aquatics Center, West High, 1775 W. Lowell Ave.

DETAILS: Ellis Aquatics, a USA Swimming club, will host parent meetings on July 24 and Aug. 1 at West High in advance of the fall season, which will be from July 30 to Oct. 31. Improve Fall swimming does not effect Mid-Valley Swim League eligibility and will prepare athletes for the high school season in the spring.

Ellis Aquatics will also offer water polo two days a week this fall, and Masters Swimming is also available.

Run for blood

WHEN: 8 a.m.

DETAILS: Delta Blood Bank will host a 5K run-walk to raise money for the Dameron Hospital Foundation, which will help the hospital upgrade its medical equipment and facilities.

Bean Run

WHERE: Lincoln Park, Eaton Avenue, in front of Tracy Branch Library.

DETAILS: Both 5K and 10K runs are planned as part of the 26th annual Tracy Dry Bean Festival. Same-day registration will begin at 6 a.m., and the race begins at 8 a.m. All ages are welcome; last year’s participants ranged in age from 6 to 83.

Oktoberfest 5K fun run

WHEN: Registration at 7:15 a.m., run begins at 8 a.m.

WHERE: St. Paul’s Lutheran Church, 1635 Chester Drive

DETAILS: A 5K fun run, about 3.1 miles, will go through the neighborhood around St Paul’s Lutheran Church. The run is part of the church’s Oktoberfest celebration. Entry fees will benefit the Kimball High water polo teams and Building Together Today. The run is followed by a pancake breakfast for all runners at 9 a.m.; nonrunners are also welcome at the breakfast for a small donation.

COST: $30; those who register before Sept. 14 pay $20 and get a T-shirt and goody bag. Checks should be made out to Bella Vista Christian Academy.
