West Coast Soccer Club director of coaching Troy Dayak announced this week that two Tracy players from the club’s under-16 girls Kryptonite team have made college commitments.

Amber Lennier, an incoming senior at Kimball High, committed to Corban University in Salem, Ore., and Grace Cabri, who will be a senior at St. Mary’s High in Stockton, committed to Creighton University in Omaha, Neb.

Dayak noted that another team member, Rachel Leonard of Livermore, a senior at Granada High, recently committed to Sacramento State.

Cabri headed to heartland

Grace Cabri accepted a full athletic and academic scholarship to Creighton University, a National Collegiate Athletic Association Division I program competing in the Missouri Valley Conference.

She will play for a Bluejays team that went 9-6-3 overall and 4-1-1 in conference play during the 2011 season.

“Creighton has a great coaching staff, an incredible stadium and a vibrant, supportive student body,” Cabri said. “With a variety of health science majors and renowned graduate programs, Creighton is an ideal fit for me.”

Cabri has played for the St. Mary’s varsity team since her freshman year at the private school and has been with Dayak’s teams for the past five years.

“He has provided me the opportunity to realize my potential as a soccer player that would have otherwise been impossible,” Cabri said. “The trainers and coaches (with West Coast Soccer) constantly work to promote a positive training environment, which has motivated me to push myself to compete at this level.”

Lennier to travel north

Amber Lennier will attend Corban University on an academic and athletic scholarship.

She will play center-midfielder for the Warriors, who play in the Cascade Collegiate Conference in the National Association for Intercollegiate Athletics. The Warriors were 11-7 overall last year and 5-4 in the CCC.

Lennier said she chose Corban because it meets three of her criteria for the ideal college: it’s a Christian school where she can play soccer and participate in a strong academic program.

She plans to study health science and medicine with the goal of moving on to medical school, where she wants to study to become a podiatrist or radiologist.

She has been with the Kimball High team since it started three years ago and has had Dayak as a coach since she was 6 years old, including the past year with the Kryptonite.

“From an early age, he always taught me to be a technical and tactical player,” she said of Dayak. “Being able to read the game and not just be physically strong but mentally strong as well is something that he has always instilled in me.”
