Tritons finish third at MVSL championships

The Tracy Tritons swim club finished its season in third place in the Mid-Valley Swim League, on Saturday, July 14, at Ripon High School.

The Hughson Sea Dogs captured first place while the Ripon Sea Lions finished in second (978.5) and the Tritons rounded out the top-three (801.5).

The Triton girls continued their dominance, with 10-year-old Malia Fernandez again sweeping all of her events, and also swimming for the 9-10 girls first-place relay teams. Lela Ziller, 6, also won all of her events and swam with two winning relay teams.

First-place finishes in the 6-and-under divisions included Lela Ziller in the girls 50-yard freestyle (43.80), 25-yard butterfly (23.30) and 25 breaststroke (26.97). Daniel Zeller won the boys 50 free (46.66) and 25 free (22.26) while Alicia Webb won the girls 25 free (22.27).

Liahla Fernandez was the Tritons’ top swimmer in the 7-8 divisions, with a win in the 25 fly (18.70) and second place finishes in the 25 backstroke (19.91) and 50 free (15.99).

Malia Fernandez won the 100 individual medley (1:14.74), the 50 fly (32.22) and the 50 back (34.85). Megan Gee, Aline Alducin, Emma Ronquillio were the other three members of the first-place Triton relay teams, including the 200 medley relay (2:27.07) and 200 free relay (2:09.63).

Mark Sheneman won the 11-12 boys 50 free (28.51) and was second in the 100 free (1:06.07) and 50 back (33.00). He was also on the first-place 200 medley relay team (2:14.87), which also included Derek Eubanks, Jackson Lieberg and Riley Gilmore. Madesyn Ronquillio won the 11-12 girls 100 individual medley (1:12.54) and was second in the 50 back (32.55).

Alec Fairfield won the 13-14 boys 50 back (30.82), and Anthony Cabri was second in both the 100 free (56.10) and 50 breast (31.90). Bree Houser won the 13-14 girls 50 breast (35.13)

Karel Kouda was the Tritons’ top swimmer in the 15-16 division with second place in boys 100 fly (1:05.69) and third in the 100 IM (1:05.78). Sandra Walther was third in the girls 50 free (27.31).
