The team then held on as the National team threatened to take the lead back at the end.
Tracy American’s 9-8 win on Tuesday at Central Community Park in Mountain House makes it the only Tracy Little League team to move on to Section 6 play starting Saturday, July 14, in Turlock.
Tuesday’s matchup meant that Tracy Little League would represent District 67 in the Section tournament regardless of the outcome.
Both teams had opportunities to win Tuesday, with eight hits for Tracy National and nine hits for Tracy American, and both teams went through their pitching rotations over the 2½-hour contest.
Tracy National got on the scoreboard first with an RBI single from Blake Vollbrecht in the second inning. Kyle Hickok and Julian DeAnda both singled in the top of the third and scored on Colby Buntin’s two-RBI double to make it a 3-0 game.
Kyle Gibson batted in a run for Tracy American, and Sinjun Tran hit an RBI double in the bottom of the third to cut National’s lead to 3-2.
Tracy American threatened to break the game open with a seven-run fourth inning. Jacob Burns led off with a single, and the American team started to bring runs in on a couple walks and passed balls.
Zachary Guillen and Gibson also had base hits in the rally. Burns, meanwhile, batted in a run with his second base hit of the inning, and Colby Basacker drove in a run with a hit to left field to make it a 9-3 game.
Tracy National’s Buntin and Jimmy Thomas both doubled in the top of the fifth, and Garrett Bacchetti and Vollbrecht both singled in a four-run rally to cut Tracy American’s lead to 9-7.
Tracy National had a chance to take the lead in the top of the sixth. Tracy American closing pitcher Brentley Bergmann and the American defense faced a two-out, bases-loaded situation with the tying run on second. Bergmann walked a batter to bring in a run but stayed cool under pressure to strike out the last batter.
Tracy American starting pitcher Jacob Ramon got the win after he went 3 2/3 innings and struck out six batters.
Tracy American went 5-0 for the District 67 double-elimination tournament, while Tracy National went 6-2, including a 3-2 loss to Tracy American in the first round on June 30 and six wins in a row to get to the championship game.
Tracy National A made it to the championship game with a 15-8 win over Northgate on Monday, July 9. Kyle Mulhern pitched 4 2/3 innings for the win, and hits included a double and a triple for Colby Buntin and a two-run triple for Garrett Bacchetti.
Tracy National collected 19 hits in an 11-9 win over Manteca on Sunday, July 8. Buntin hit an RBI triple and Blake Vollbrecht was the winning pitcher.
Tracy National scored 12 runs in the first three innings on the way to a 17-4 win on Saturday, July 7, over Spreckels. Wyatt Calkins, Jimmy Thomas, Mateo DeCoite and Kyle Mulhern all doubled to drive in runs. Calkins pitched 3 1/3 innings and struck out five batters for the win.
Tracy Little League had four teams in the tournament. Mountain House Little League, hosting a district-level tournament for the first time, also had a team in the tournament.
The Tracy American B team was eliminated after going 3-2 for the week. The Mountain House All Stars went 1-2 for the tournament, and Tracy National B went 0-2 for the tournament.
Next up for Tracy American A is the four-team Section 6 tournament, which will begin Saturday, July 14, in Turlock against the Delta Little League All Stars of Stockton. The winner of that tournament will compete in the Northern California Divisional Tournament.
Juniors
Tracy came close to having another team move on to section-level play, but the Tracy Junior National finished as District 67 runner-up.
Tracy National finished its tournament Monday, July 9, with an 11-1 loss to district champion Salida at Sierra High School in Manteca after coming up through the elimination bracket in the double-elimination tournament.
It took a few innings for the Tracy National team to make its offense work Monday.
The Salida All Stars started with a 1-0 lead in the first inning, and Tracy tied it up in the top of the third when Jesse Shaddox reached on an error and came home on Brandon Hernandez’s sacrifice fly. Salida scored again in the bottom of the third and in the fourth to take a 3-1 lead.
Tracy got close a couple times.
Tracy loaded the bases in a fourth inning that included base hits from Damien Hutchins and Shaddox, but Hutchins was thrown out at home on an inning-ending double play.
Brett Mansell doubled in the sixth inning as Tracy loaded the bases again with just one out, but the team was again denied any runs as the next two batters were retired on fly-outs.
Salida had seven base hits for the day, including a two-run homer in Salida’s four-run fifth inning, which put the game away. Salida scored four more in the bottom of the sixth to end the game on the mercy rule.
Tracy National went 5-2 for the tournament and got to the championship game with a 10-9 win over Northgate on Sunday, July 8.
Northgate had an 8-4 lead going into the seventh inning but was able to get only one run out of four base hits after Tracy twice threw out Northgate runners at the plate.
Tracy tied it with a five-run rally that included four walks and a base hit for Mansell. Izzy Segura singled to start the bottom of the seventh, advanced on Mason Stevenson’s base hit and scored the winning run on a hit from Shaddox.
Sebastian Muriset and Hutchins pitched relief in the last two innings and got the win.
Tracy National eliminated Tracy American on Saturday, July 7, after the National team overcame an 8-1 deficit with a four-run sixth inning and four-run seventh inning for the 9-8 win.
Tracy National’s sixth-inning rally included doubles from Segura and Collin Bessette and hits from Ricky Staas and Raymond Flores, and Hernandez had the two-out base hit in the seventh to seal the win.
Flores also pitched two innings of relief for the win.
Tracy American’s Antonio Gigliotti doubled and singled twice, and Ronaldo Tijero and Thomas Greely each singled twice for Tracy American.
11-year-olds
Tracy had two teams in the 11-year-old tournament at Paul Weston Park in Stockton.
The Tracy American team finished the District 67 in third place with a 4-2 loss on Friday to Salida.
Salida was ahead 4-0 in the fifth inning when Nathan Graf hit a two-run homer to put Tracy on the scoreboard. Daniel Chartier pitched five innings for Tracy, gave up four runs and struck out four.
Tracy National was eliminated short of the finals, and did not report results.
Majors
Tracy had two teams and Mountain House had a team in the Majors tournament at Brock Elliott School in Manteca.
Tracy American went 2-2, Tracy National went 1-2, and Mountain House was eliminated in two games.
