Two Tracy Babe Ruth teams are going after state titles in their respective Central California Cal Ripken tournaments. The 9-year-old All-Stars are competing in Fresno, and the 11-year-olds are playing in Bakersfield.

The 9-year-old All-Stars opened their state tournament in Fresno on Tuesday, July 10, with a 7-6 loss to Visalia and followed that with a 13-3 win over Easton-Caruthers on Wednesday, July 11, in the double-elimination bracket. Tracy played Bullard on Thursday, July 12, and results were not available. Championship game is Sunday, July 15.

The 11-year-old Babe Ruth All Stars began their state tournament on Tuesday in Bakersfield with a 4-0 win over Central Babe Ruth of Fresno.

Skyler Perez pitched six innings for Tracy, and Eddie Perez caught for the team. The team also includes Jake Ojeda, Justin Russo, Josh Wallwork, Carlos Vasquez, Araya Corral, Cesar Ruiz, Joseph Slotnick, Jordan Troche, Devon Sequeira and Andrew Garcia.

Corral scored the first run on Troche’s hit to right field. Vasquez, Ojeda and Troche also scored for Tracy.

Tracy followed with a game against Kerman on Wednesday, but results were not available. The tournament has a double-elimination bracket, with the championship game Saturday, July 14.

Four more Tracy Babe Ruth teams finished their seasons short of the final rounds of their respective state championship tournaments.

Tracy’s 8-year-old All-Stars went 1-2 in the round-robin portion of their tournament in Visalia and did not make the championship bracket. Tracy lost to Bullard 20-1 on July 6, beat San Luis Obispo 8-7 on Saturday and lost to Kingsburg 11-6 on Sunday.

The 10-year-old All-Stars were among 15 teams at the state tournament, which began Saturday in Visalia. Tracy opened round-robin play with a 14-0 loss to San Luis Obispo on Saturday, lost to Kerman 6-5 on Sunday afternoon, and beat Easton-Caruthers 15-5 on Sunday evening. Tracy beat Central 5-0 on Monday, July 9, but it wasn’t enough to move into the top six that play in single-elimination championship bracket.

The Tracy 13-15-year-old team came in second in its Central California Babe Ruth District 1 qualifying tournament from June 30 to July 5, at Kofu Park in Lodi, and did not qualify for the state tournament. Tracy opened with a 3-0 loss to Lodi, followed by a 6-5 win over Ripon on July 2. Lodi beat Tracy 5-0 in the championship game on July 5 and moves to the state tournament in Fowler starting Friday, July 13.

The Tracy 16-18 age group team was eliminated in two games at the Central California Babe Ruth tournament in Hollister. Tracy opened with a 7-3 loss on July 5 to Modesto, the team that would go on to win the championship. Tracy was eliminated with an 11-3 loss to Ripon on July 6.
