“It shows the spirit of Tracy High cheer and the successful year in the making,” said coach Sheila Soares. “They worked hard all day every day, and it showed with the awards they received.”
Among the awards were All American titles for seven Tracy girls, including Katlin Stroup, Tyler Pendelton, Karlie Brown, Katie Early, Melissa Clark, Makaela Bournazian and Mackenzie Myra. The awards were based on their performance of new cheer routine and their general knowledge of the sport.
The award gained each girl an invitation to be among 500 cheerleaders from the United States who will perform in London in a 2013 New Year’s Day parade.
During the Squaw Valley camp, teams had eight hours a day of instruction in new dances and cheers, chants, stunts and unity. The final day included performances of new routines, and camp staff members and judges awarded Camp Champs honors to all three Tracy teams.
The combined Tracy High cheer team also received the Leadership Award, which was voted on by the teams attending the camp .
