The city of Tracy is being asked to develop the 680 acres known as the Holly Sugar property into a development that will consist of a motorsports park, amusement park, boat marina and boardwalk, golf course, vintner center, hotel, casino, convention center, movie studios and a festival sports and entertainment arena, according to a petition being circulated.
I live on Corral Hollow Road, adjacent to the proposed project, and my hope is you will join me in making your voice heard by telling Mayor Brent Ives, City Manager Leon Churchill and the City Council to not give California Blast Development an extension for exclusive negotiating rights to develop this theme park.
I understand that we who live near the property are outside the Tracy city limits. However, it does not mean we are without a voice. I am asking for your support in stopping this project by writing and/or calling the mayor’s office and City Council members, and by soliciting the action and support of your friends and neighbors to urge the council to not extend the negotiating rights agreement while California Blast seeks investors for this project.
In my opinion, the scope of this project is beyond belief. Cities larger and with a wider tax base have attempted similar developments and have ended up bankrupt. These schemes always leave the city financially responsible for these projects, ending with catastrophic consequences.
I understand the need for the city to develop the property. And each of us has opinions as to what would best use of this land. My effort is to appeal to those who see the outcome of this proposal as a nuisance and the destruction of a way of life for those of us in proximity to Holly Sugar, as well as an needless expenditure of city funds at a time when city services and surrounding areas are in need of funding.
