Castro Sport Karate owner and teacher Julio Castro and one of his students, Rafael Garcia traveled to Queretaro, Mexico, where both claimed first-place wins in the Heroes de Queretaro Tournament, a Sport Karate International event.
Garcia, a ProCSK member, placed first in both the 11-and-under point sparring competition for boys and girls weighing less than 88 pounds and the continuous sparring competition for boys and girls weighing more than 66 pounds.
Julio Castro placed first in 18-and-older men’s point sparring.
That same day but closer to home, two of the local karate school’s students won their divisions at the California Black Belt League tournament at Modesto Junior High School. Nicholas Smith won both the open weapons form competition and the 10-and-11-year-old boys advanced point sparring division. Matthew Nguyen won the 8-and-9-year-old boys point sparring and continuous sparring competitions.
Three other students from Castro Sport Karate traveled to San Jose on June 9 for the Bay Area Sport Karate Association Shark City Nationals at the San Jose Convention Center.
Austin Huff, one of the local school’s ProCSK members, placed first and won the grand champion award in 6-and-7-year-old boys point sparring, and he placed second in the open forms division. Also claiming first-place and grand champion awards was Anthony Huff, who won the 15-to-17-year-old boys point sparring competition. Ahmanni Scott, a ProCSK member, placed third in 12-to-14-year-old girls point sparring.
