Local soccer coach Troy Dayak and his Livermore-based West Coast Soccer under-16 Kryptonite team is going after a repeat of last summer’s success, when the newly formed team won U.S. Club Soccer’s National Cup in Boise, Idaho.

First, the team has to get past the competition at this weekend’s West Region championship tournament in Turlock and Ripon.

A win in the 16-team U16 Super Group would send the team to Waukegan, Ill., just north of Chicago, for the U.S. Club Soccer XI National Cup from July 27 to 30.

Dayak said he was confident that the team’s success in recent months has prepared the team, including players from Tracy and Livermore, for the task.

Among the Tracy players on the team’s roster are Mireya Magana, Tayler Lennier, Amber Lennier and Adaurie Dayak, who all attend Kimball High, and Cailie Chayrez, a Tracy High student. Fellow Kryptonite players Stephanie Pawek, Jessica Hufford and Grace Cabri live in Tracy but attend St. Mary’s High in Stockton.

Most recently, the Kryptonite team was one of seven West Coast Soccer teams to win its division at the Santa Cruz Pro Am Beach Soccer tournament on June 9 and 10, when the team went 4-0 for the weekend.

The Kryptonite also played up a couple of divisions to win the under-19 women’s division in the Tracy Futbol Club Orange Bowl over Memorial Day weekend. They started with three shutouts in a row, 2-0 over FC Elk Grove, 7-0 over Merced United and 1-0 over Mission Valley United, on May 26 and 27.

The team then played to a 1-1 tie in regulation in the championship game against Lamorinda United. Lamorinda scored first before Adaurie Dayak passed to Brooke Rittmann, who scored the goal to tie it up. Kryptonite goalie Haley Crook blocked two shots on the penalty kick shootout, and Sarah Peterson kicked the winning shot.

That tournament win followed Kryptonite’s May 6 win, 4-2, over Burlingame Blitz in the championship game of the 2011-12 Nor Cal Premiere Soccer State Cup U16 Gold division.

Troy Dayak, a former Olympic soccer player and a San Jose Earthquakes Hall of Fame player, is the director of coaching for West Coast Soccer, which he created to develop players with the potential to move on to college teams.

West Coast Soccer’s under-14 girls Wild team was also one of the champions of the Memorial Day weekend TFC Orange Bowl going 4-0 for the weekend with shutouts in every game. Wild was also a champion at the Santa Cruz Pro Am tournament earlier this month. One of the players on that team is Miciah Madison of Mountain House, who was among four West Coast Soccer players selected to participate in U.S. Youth Soccer’s Olympic Development Program regional camp in Moscow, Idaho, from July 8 to 13.

West Coast Soccer’s newest team, the under-13 girls Wonder, was also an Orange Bowl and Santa Cruz Pro Am champion.
