McClain, a recent graduate of Kimball High, won the event with a throw of 160 feet even, nearly 18 feet farther than her closest competitor. She is one of only a few young women who have won the event three times in a row.
She followed that up with a win at the California State High School Hammer Championships at Modesto Junior College on Sunday, June 10. She made a throw of 163-9 for first place.
Also competing on Sunday were Gabby Farmer, a recent graduate of Delta Charter High, and Caitlin McClain, who will be a freshman at Kimball High in the fall. Farmer placed 11th, 107-2, and Caitlin McClain placed 14th, 82-6.
Cara McClain will join the Modesto Junior College track and field team in the fall. She will train under coach Bob Mackay and continue to compete in throwing events.
