Cadet 2nd Lt. Derek Domke, 14, received the Gen. Billy Mitchell Award in recognition of completing the first eight steps of the cadet program. He is the squadron’s cadet flight sergeant and a member of the unit’s color guard. More than 42,000 cadets have earned the Gen. Billy Mitchell Award.
Cadet Capt. Jori Domke, 17, received the Amelia Earhart Award and serves as the squadron’s cadet commander. She is also a member of the color guard. Since 1964, only 15,000 cadets have earned the Amelia Earhart Award by completing the cadet program’s first 11 achievements.
Jori Domke, who joined the Civil Air Patrol Cadet Program in October 2007, wants to pursue a career in astrophysics. She is a member of the drama club at Kimball High School, where she will be a senior in the fall.
Both cadets had to complete a 100-question exam covering aerospace topics and leadership. Jori Domke’s exam also included questions about staff duties.
The Lt. Col. Arthur King Composite Squadron is based at the Modesto Airport, and the cadet program meets weekly to train members between 12 and 18 years old in leadership, aerospace education and emergency services.
