With temperatures on the rise, kids and adults hit the water for some cool relief as the recreation and lap swimming pools opened for the summer season at the Pinkie Phillips Aquatics Center.

The swimming programs at the 1775 W. Lowell Ave. pool are run by YMCA of San Joaquin County, which took over last year from the city of Tracy as part of a budget-cutting effort at City Hall.

Recreational swimming opened Monday, June 9, and will continue through Aug. 26, while the lap pool will close Aug. 9. The aquatics center will be closed for all swimming on the July Fourth holiday.

Recreation hours are 1 to 3 p.m. Monday through Friday and 12:30 p.m. to 4 p.m. Saturday and Sunday. The swim fee is $2 for anyone 4 or older, while 3-and-younger swimmers enter for free. A $15 recreation swim pass grants holders 10 visits to the pool.

Lap pool hours are 9 a.m. to 7 p.m. Monday through Thursday and alternate Fridays, and the drop-in fee is $3. A lap-swimming pass costs $25 and grants 10 visits.

Water aerobics classes are also offered from 8 to 9 a.m. and 7 to 8 p.m. Monday through Thursday. The aerobics class costs $4 per visit or $35 for a 10-visit pass.
