The meet was hosted May 25 to 27 at the University of the Pacific’s Chris Kjeldsen Pool, a 50-meter, Olympic-size pool.
The meet was a chance for swimmers to establish their time standards for the season, which will qualify them for future competition this year, including B-level, A-level, Junior Olympic and Far Western meets this summer.
The Junior Olympic meet will be in July in both Concord and Moraga, and the Far Western meet will be in August in San Jose. Swimmers who log Pacific Record Times, the highest time standard, qualify for both events.
8-and-under
Jenika Tanjuakio was the Ellis team’s highest scorer for the weekend. She recorded Pacific Record Times with her first-place finishes in the 8U girls 50-meter freestyle (38.68 seconds), 50 backstroke (46.92), 50 breaststroke (52.88) and 50 butterfly (45.41).
She also won the 100 breaststroke (1 minute, 55.84 seconds) and placed second in the 100 backstroke (1:43.63).
Also competing in the 8U girls division was Lauryn Lucero, who recorded A-level times in four events.
Yaelle Tanjuakio logged B-level times in three events, and Logan Edwards made his B cut in the boys 100 freestyle.
9-10
Caitlin O’Neill recorded four Pacific Record Times as she won the 100 freestyle (1:13.05), placed second in the 100 breaststroke (1:34.41) and was third in the 50 breaststroke (43.55) and the 200 individual medley (2:59.02).
She also had two Far Western qualifying times with second-place finishes in the 50 freestyle (33.45) and 200 freestyle (2:42.65) and had Junior Olympic qualifying times in the 50 butterfly (38.81) and 100 butterfly (1:36.51).
Teammate Abigial Figueroa picked up her first Junior Olympic time in the 50 breaststroke (48.11). Jilliyn Lucero picked up her A cut in the 200 freestyle (3:10.06), 50 backstroke (46.99) and 100 backstroke (1:42.74).
Among the Ellis 9-10 boys, Michael Salinas swam B-level times in three of his events.
11-12
Maddie Wittkowske logged a Far Western time in the 200 freestyle (2:24.90) and Junior Olympic times in the 400 freestyle (5:16.19) and 50 freestyle (34.36).
Kamryn Lucero also made Junior Olympic times in the 50 freestyle (31.31), 100 freestyle (1:07.85), 200 freestyle (2:27.86) and 200 individual medley (2:50.85). Justine Abuso recorded a Junior Olympic time in the 100 breaststroke (1:31.22).
Also competing in the 11-12 girls were Meigan Loomis who placed second in the 800 freestyle (12:44.63), and Alex Colina, who recorded her best times yet in her events.
In the 12-and-under boys, Vincent Tejidor picked up his A cuts in three events and Esteban Perez swam his best times in all of his events.
13-14
Gaby Perez established personal bests in her events in the 13-14 girls. In the 13-14 boys, Nicholas Sichau and Nathaniel Sichau picked up new A times in their events, and Conner Waters also recorded his best times yet.
15-16
Fabiola Perez, Cassidy Waters and Amy Windschitl established their best times in all of their events.
17-18
Michaela Loomis won the 50 free (30.14) and 100 free (1:05.67) and placed second in the 200 free (2:23.98), all with A-level times.
She also recorded Far Western qualifying times with second-place finishes in the 100 breaststroke (1:19.82) and 200 breaststroke (2:54.03) and qualified for the Junior Olympics with second-place times in the 100 butterfly (1:11.79) and 200 individual medley (2:38.20).
