Raul Edgardo Lopez, 25, was assigned to the prison’s dairy as a herdsman. He was discovered missing during an inmate count at 2:30 a.m. today, June 4, but prison officials aren’t yet sure how he escaped, according to prison spokesman Lt. George E. Paul.
Lopez, a convicted felon, was serving a five-year prison term for second-degree robbery from Los Angeles County when he escaped. He was scheduled for parole in June 2015.
“It’s a walk-away,” Paul said. “We’re aggressively looking for him right now.”
Lopez was housed in the minimum-security facility used for a dairy, farm and grounds, Paul said, and is located outside the secured walls of the prison.
Paul said Lopez passed a screening to be part of the dairy team and, according to his prison records, he has had no disciplinary history since his arrival at DVI in March.
Since his escape was discovered, Paul said prison officials have notified all local law enforcement agencies, including the Tracy Police Department and the California Highway Patrol. It's not known, Paul said, where Lopez might head.
Paul described Lopez as Latino, 5-feet 9-inches tall, 191 pounds with a medium build, black hair and brown eyes. He was last seen wearing a blue shirt and pants with “CDCR Prisoner” on the pant legs.
Though he is not a known gang member, Paul said Lopez should be considered dangerous. Anyone who sees him or someone matching his description should call 9-1-1, local authorities or the DVI Escape Commander at 830-3856.
