Polls open for the Tuesday, June 5, primary election at 7 a.m. and close at 8 p.m.

Absentee ballots that have not yet been mailed in can be dropped off at polling places for collection to ensure they are counted, according to San Joaquin County Registrar of Voters Austin Erdman.

Voters may choose candidates in statewide and national races regardless of party affiliation this year under a new open-primary system. The top two vote-getters will participate in the fall elections regardless of which party they represent.

The sole exception is the race for the local county supervisor seat. In that campaign, if one candidate garners more than 50 percent of the vote, that candidate will automatically win the seat. If no one earns that high a vote share, the people with the top two tallies will race again in the fall.

The following is a list of local polling places. To find your polling place, visit www.sjcrov.org or call 468-2885.
