Bulldogs hand out sophomore baseball awards

Tracy High sophomore coach Ryan Hern handed out his team awards on Monday, May 14 at the Tracy High cafeteria.

Coaches named C.J. Butcher as the team’s Most Valuable Player. He had a 4-3 record and 1.56 earned run average as a pitcher and also batted .259 for the season. Anthony Nunez, with a batting average of .460 for the season, got the trophy for being the Bulldog team’s best hitter, and shortstop Cameron Pham was the team’s best defensive player.

Coaches also handed out certificates for notable accomplishments. Aaron Denholm was the team’s most versatile player. Ryan Vares got the “Small Ball” certificate. Michael Motyka was best outfielder. Clayton Fegett got the award for best home run for his shot over the left field fence in the Bulldogs’ 17-0 win over Franklin in the last game of the season on May 9. David Hinson was the best pinch-hitter, and Braeden Oki had the most stolen bases with 13 steals in 14 attempts.

Tracy’s sophomores finished the season at 17-9 and 10-5 in the San Joaquin Athletic Association.
