Pam Warmerdam, the president of the Nutrition Studio & Diabetes Care Center in Tracy, begins by outlining the problem of obesity in the United States. She has worked as a weight-loss counselor for more than 25 years, and she has relatives in Ohio, she said, who have struggled with diabetes and excessive weight.
But the heart of the book, which is titled “The Diet of Eden: How the Low-Carb Diets Almost Had it Right,” is the solution Warmerdam proposes.
“The best diet is God’s diet,” she said.
That, in brief, means eating plenty of vegetables, fruits and whole grains, while skipping refined grains and sweets loaded with simple carbohydrates, she said.
“Some people follow the Atkins, and that’s fine to get rid of white processed grains, but we need to keep the carbs that God gave us,” she said.
Included in her book are breakdowns of restaurant meals that illustrate how choosing whole-grain and vegetable alternatives can lighten the calorie load and improve nutritional value.
Warmerdam also outlines a two-week cleanse and four weeks of meals built around “natural carbs.”
She will sign her book and discuss the ideas behind “The Diet of Eden” during two events later this month at M&J Bistro and Emeritus at Heritage Place.
The book can also be found online through Barnes & Noble Booksellers, Amazon.com and Warmerdam’s website, http://nutritionstudio.net.
Nutrition Studio & Diabetes Care Center, which Warmerdam founded in 2002, is inside Eaton Medical Plaza, 471 W. Eaton Ave.
