The robber walked into Park Avenue Cleaners, 1833 11th St., displayed a handgun to the clerk and then ran from the business toward Corral Hollow Road with an undisclosed amount of cash, according to Tracy police officer Steve Bailey.
The man is described as a white, in his 40s and 5-foot-10 with a thin build. He was wearing a red and white striped polo shirt, jeans and a baseball cap.
Bailey said outside the cleaners that no one was injured during the robbery. He said its unknown if the gunman had a vehicle parked nearby as a getaway ride.
“We got here fast and set up a perimeter,” he said. “We’re checking video cameras (in the area).”
Merchants in the shopping center expressed shock over news of the robbery.
“That’s kind of surprising … kind of crazy,” said Fantastic Sams Hair Salon stylist Cassidie Dunson.
Her manager, Nicole Mahoney said since the business relocated to the shopping center in February, there have been fist fights in the parking lot and an attempted carjacking.
Employees in the business adjacent to the cleaners, Down Under Tanning, said they didn’t see or hear anything during the robbery.
“That’s scary,” tanning clerk Alexandra Alves said.
Her co-worker, Nicole Webster, said “It makes me uneasy.”
Anyone with information about the robbery should call Tracy police Detective Tim Bauer at 831-6605.
