The Jaguars (25-6, 12-2 VOL) made the top four with Thursday afternoon’s 7-4 win over Los Banos, and then lost 7-5 to Sierra on Thursday evening. The Jaguars then knocked Ceres out of the tournament with a 7-5 win on Friday afternoon, and were eliminated with a 4-3 loss to Sierra on Friday evening.
Oakdale had to beat Sierra twice to win the Division IV title, first with a 9-1 win on Friday. Sierra beat Oakdale 4-1 on Saturday morning, and Oakdale won the championship game 3-1 on Saturday afternoon.
Sierra 4, Kimball 3
The Timberwolves from Sierra High had to come from behind in the top of the seventh inning on Friday, May 18, in order to finish off Kimball and move on to the championship game against Oakdale.
Sierra scored in the second inning on Sommer Wilson’s solo homer, and Kimball took a 2-1 lead in the bottom of the sixth after Angelique Vega Vega reached on error, Kate Bomar singled and Llesenia Torres doubled to right field to bring them both in.
Sierra scored three in the top of the seventh with a pair of singles and Iyana Hughes two-RBI triple to left. Hughes then scored on a sacrifice fly to make it a 4-2 game. Kimball scored one more in the seventh when Anisha Richardson doubled and came home on Taylor Honnoll’s single.
Kimball starting pitcher Alexis Lopez went all seven innings and gave up seven hits and struck out four batters. Torres also singled, and Danielle Lallos had two hits.
Kimball 7, Ceres 5
The Jaguars stayed alive on Friday afternoon with a 7-5 win over Ceres. Kimball had a 6-0 lead before Ceres rallied for four runs in the bottom of the fourth and cut Kimball’s lead to 6-5 at the end of six innings. The Jaguars scored one more in the top of the seventh.
Kimball starting pitcher Katie Hanville got the win after she pitched innings and allowed seven hits. She gave up four runs, three of them earned, in the top of the fourth before Hailey Garza came in to pitch. Garza went for two innings and allowed two hits, and Alexis Lopez got the save when she came in for two innings and allowed one run on two hits and struck out three.
Kimball had nine hits for the day. Danielle Lallos doubled twice and batted in three runs, Taylor Honnoll had three hits and an RBI, Montanna Bradley had two hits and an RBI, and Llesenia Torres and Anisha Richardson also had hits.
The Jaguar defense also kept Ceres in check, including Lallos’ shoestring catch in center field to end the first inning with Ceres runners in scoring position, and third baseman Anisha Richardson made a diving stop and off-balance throw in the fifth, followed by Arianna Hawkins’ diving catch on a line drive up the middle to keep another Ceres batter off of the bases in the fifth.
Sierra 7, Kimball 5
The Timberwolves knocked the Jaguars out of the championship bracket with a 7-5 win Thursday evening. Sierra scored three runs in the first inning on two hits, two walks and two batters hit by pitches, and held a 7-3 lead after five innings.
Danielle Lallos had three base hits for the day, Ariana Hawkins singled twice and doubled, and batted in two runs, Llesenia Torres doubled twice, including an RBI double in the fifth inning, Gabbi Cox doubled, Anisha Richardson singled and batted in a run, Taylor Honnoll batted in a run and Angelique Vega singled.
Starting pitcher Danielle Lallos went for two thirds of an inning and gave up three runs for the loss. Katie Hanville came in with two out and the bases load and got the ground-out with one pitch. She went on to pitch five innings and gave up four runs on six hits. Hailey Garza pitched the final inning and gave up one hit and no run.
