The Tracy High Bulldogs’ bats weren’t enough to match those of the Buhach Colony High Thunder on Saturday, May 19, at the University of the Pacific’s Klein Family Field in Stockton.

The Buhach Colony High Thunder (22-7, 11-4 Central California Athletic Conference) from Atwater smacked 15 hits — five for extra bases and a three-run homer in the first inning — to claim a 14-7 win in the third round of the Sac-Joaquin Section Division I South playoffs over Tracy (24-5, 14-1 San Joaquin Athletic Association) in double-elimination play.

“We were hoping our pitching would keep us in the game because we’re pretty confident with our offense,” said Tracy coach Vic Alkire. “Usually our pitching is really good. Today it wasn’t what it normally is. That’s a little surprising because usually we’re lights-out on the mound all year long.”

Starting pitcher John Jaeger got the loss after giving up nine runs, seven of them earned, on nine hits over 2 2/3 innings. Reilly Oki gave up four runs, one of them earned, on three hits over two innings, and Dustin Dibble gave up no runs on two hits and struck out four batters over 2 1/3 innings.

Tracy had 10 hits for the day including a solo home run and a double for Tanner Turner. Jake Shull doubled and singled, Kenny Bergmann singled twice, Cody Daniel and Matt Loscavio both doubled, and Jaeger and Chase Johnson both singled.

With the loss, Tracy now faces Enochs of Modesto on Monday, May 21, at 4 p.m. at UOP. A win advances the Bulldogs to a semifinal game against the winner of Buhach Colony and St. Mary’s game on Monday, May 21. A lose eliminates Tracy form the playoffs.
