Track and field: Bulldogs sending eight to division meet

Tracy High track and field team qualified eight athletes on Wednesday and Friday, May 9 and 11, at Bear Creek High in Stockton for the Sac-Joaquin Section Division I meet this week in Elk Grove.

Tracy High’s teams all placed fifth at the San Joaquin Athletic Association meet, with Lincoln High taking first in the varsity boys (163 points) while Lodi won the varsity girls division (171).

The top-four athletes from each individual event now advance to the division meet, which is held Wednesday and Friday, May 16 and 18, at Elk Grove High.

Tracy will have five competitors among the varsity boys. Justin Woo was the only gold medalist for the Bulldog varsity teams with a 13-foot mark on the pole vault. Also competing this week in the pole vault is Nathan Arena, who placed third (12-0). Nate Jones will move up with his second-place finish in the 100-meter dash (11.11). Competing in the high jump will be Justin Phelps, who placed third (5-9) and Cameron Gable, who placed fourth (5-7).

Three of Tracy’s varsity girls will move on to the division meet. Taylor Juarez placed second in the high jump (4-10). Kaitlin Mizuno was third in the pole vault (8-9). Katrina Bruder was third in the shot put (30-10), and fourth in the discus (94-3).

Tracy’s top freshman-sophomore athletes include Devin Foster, who won the pole vault, clearing an 11-foot bar. Josh Clarke took third in the frosh-soph boys high jump (5-7), and Adam Gasior was third in the discus (97-0). Among the frosh soph girls, Karlie Brown placed second in the high jump (4-4).
