Anna Serrato nominated her daughter, a CIF Sac-Joaquin Section scholar-athlete, for the makeover contest offered by Youth Achieving Destiny, a nonprofit founded by Tracy resident Willie Harper.
The makeover included hairstyling, a facial, nails, flowers, dress, shoes, jewelry, and a photo shoot, donated by local merchants and other professionals. Organizers with YAD’s Hadessah young women’s program hope to expand the contest for girls at local high schools next year.
In addition to playing sports during every season of her four years at Tracy High, Mariah Serrato has participated in honors classes, student government, community service and Future Business Leaders of America. She was crowned homecoming queen in the fall and plans to study dentistry at University of the Pacific.
Sponsors included makeup artist Vickie Vaughn; Jonie Endo, Erica Frese-Green and Marie from Versailles Salon & Spa; Ronna Green, Brandee Green and Regina Zeno of YAD; and downtown businesses The Little Flower Shop, Bellisimo, DeVinci’s Town & Country Café and The Great Plate.
