Emily Axford, a 17-year-old Kimball High School junior, was named Tracy’s Distinguished Young Woman for 2013 on Saturday, May 5.

She was selected from a field of 11 contestants during the annual scholarship program — originally known as Junior Miss — in the Kimball High auditorium.

Emily, daughter of Roy and Laurie Axford of Tracy, received a $1,000 scholarship from the sponsoring Tracy Kiwanis Club and will represent Tracy in July’s state contest in Bakersfield.

In addition to claiming the title at Tracy’s Distinguished Young Woman, she also was named the program’s best in fitness competition, receiving an additional $200 scholarship.

Emily performed a lyrical dance for the talent-portion of the competition.

First alternate in Saturday night’s pageant was Amanda Williams, who receives a $500 scholarship and also two additional scholarships — $200 for being named Spirit of Distinguished Young Women of Tracy and $200 for self-expression.

Other scholarship winners were Jamie Lam, $300 for scholastic achievement, and Jullianne Pham, $200 for winning the talent competition.
