Baseball: Jaguars aim for playoffs

The Jaguars are in the hunt for playoffs with their 13-2 win over Manteca on Wednesday, May 2, and three more games to go.

Kimball (9-6, 5-6 Valley Oak League) has one more game against Manteca (11-9, 5-6) today, May 4, for a chance to move into third place in the league, and then plays sixth-place East Union twice next week to finish the season.

The Jaguars’ home win on Wednesday, May 2, included a six-run rally in the fourth inning which led to a 10-2 lead by the sixth inning.

Ricardo Arias batted in a run in the sixth on one of his two hits, and Blake Cichella, with one of his two hits on the day, put the game away with a bases-loaded double to score two and end the game on the mercy rule.

Cody Wagner pitched all six innings, giving up four hits. Zack Perugi had four hits including a double, Alec Barba tripled and singled, Corbin Lis doubled and batted in two, Cody Arledge doubled and batted in a run and Kris Bartlett and Justin King also had hits.



West 8, Edison 2

West High pitcher Mitch Cowles gave up three hits, three walks and one run and struck out four batters over five innings for the win on Wednesday, May 2, at Edison High in Stockton.

Jackson Nott then came in as relief and closed the door for Edison (2-17, 0-7 Tri-City Athletic Conference) during the sixth and seventh innings.

Chase Martinez scored in the first inning for West (6-8, 5-2) on a wild pitch. Nick Gandall crushed a two-out triple to drive in two runs in the third and then scored on Steven Gonsalves’ single. Johnny Gori hit an RBI single in the sixth, and then stole second, advanced on a wild pitch and scored when Chase Martinez grounded out to second. Rafael Tijero also hit an RBI single in the sixth. Gori batted in another run in the seventh.

Chase Martinez also had two hits and batted in two runs, Tijero had two hits, Gandall had two hits and two RBIs, and Garrett Speckmann doubled.



Delta Charter 10, Mountain Oaks 7

The Dragons struck early on Tuesday, May 1, against the visiting Eagles from Mountain Oaks, and held onto the Mountain Valley League win despite five errors that led to three unearned runs.

Darren Silva and Clark Muniz both singled and tripled. Silva also scored three times and Muniz scored twice and batted in two runs. Tyler Daugherty singled and two sacrifice flies to knock in three runs. Jonathan Palmer had a base hit, scored twice and batted in two, and Tyler Riselvato doubled and Andrew Silva singled and drove in a run.

Palmer was the Dragons’ starting pitcher and allowed four runs, two of them earned, and struck out five batters over four innings for the win. Muniz pitched two innings and allowed two earned runs on one hit and a walks, and he struck out four batters. Darren Silva worked the final inning allowing one earned run, one hit and he struck out two.



Freshmen: St. Mary’s 8, Tracy 1

The Bulldogs (14-4) met their match on Monday at St. Mary’s High in Stockton as they were limited to two three hits, including a double for Robbie Ramirez and singles for Jacob Alvarado and Brandon Russell.

Alvarado also reached on an error in the fifth inning and came around to score Tracy’s only run. Russell pitched 2 1/3 innings and allowed six runs on two hits, three walks and two batters hit by pitches for the loss. Alvarado pitched relief and gave up two runs on four hits.
