Tennis: Kimball players denied trip to sections

Kimball High’s tennis players were denied a trip to the Sac-Joaquin Section Division II individual tournament after most Jaguar players were eliminated in the early rounds of the Valley Oak League tournament on Wednesday and Thursday, April 25 and 26, at Kimball High/

Kimball High’s best doubles finish was the No. 1 doubles team of Marco Tello and Beau Lawrence, who had been 12-0 in regular season matches leading up to the tournament. They made it to quarterfinals, where they lost 3-8 to the team from Manteca, who would go on to win the tournament. Also making it to the quarterfinals was the doubles team of Mark Dalupan and Amir Kabariti, who finished with a 5-8 loss.

Also in the doubles, Alex Pelletier and Amit Sandhu lost in second round 4-8, and Arman Banghu and Ingel Salgarino lost in second round 4-8. Kimball lost its other matches in the first round, including Kevin Sung with a 3-8 loss, Mark Dalupan with a 6-8 loss to Oral Nunis of Manteca High, who would go on to be the VOL singles champion, and the doubles team of Daniel Lee and Troy Mathew, who lost 3-8.

The section tournament is on Thursday and Friday, May 3 and 4 at Johnson Ranch Racquet Club in Roseville. Players headed to the event are Nunis of Manteca, Mike Lopez of Manteca, and the doubles teams of Yok Jiang Ma and Jacob Webb of Manteca, and Josh Smith and Andrew Klatt of Sonora.
