After not being selected in last week's NFL draft, Stanley Arukwe was picked up by the Arizona Cardinals as an undrafted free agent.

Arukwe said that he got the call from his agent about a half hour after the draft was over Saturday, April 28, and was told that Philadelphia Eagles and Arizona Cardinals had both called and were interested. As he took in this news, he said, the Tennessee Titans also called.

He chose the Cardinals because he would have an opportunity to play as a wide receiver and on special teams.

“They told me right away that they have spots open. I’m just happy to get the opportunity,” Arukwe said. “They’re giving me a chance, and a chance is all I need.”

Arukwe is the second member of West High's Class of 2007 to be taken on to an NFL team this past week.

Offensive lineman Amini Silatolu was drafted No. 40 overall by the Carolina Panthers on Friday, April 27. Silatolu and Arukwe played large roles on the 2005 and 2006 Wolf Pack football teams that went deep into the playoffs.
