It’s the third consecutive championship for the team, which ended this season with a 12-2-2 overall record and a 7-1 league finish.
The girls now go after their second consecutive Sac-Joaquin Section Division VII title as the top-seeded team in the section semifinals on Tuesday, May 15. An opponent hasn’t been determined, and the winner will advance to the section championship on Saturday, May 19.
Millennium coach Mario Ron said that Thursday’s game in Lodi could have gone either way, but the Falcons got the early advantage with a pair of first-half goals from Anneliese Bradley, each with an assist from Salina Elias.
The Eagles scored their goal in the second half, and Ron noted that Millennium goal keeper Hailey Rockwell proved her value to the team.
“It was biting nails after that,” Ron said. “Hailey made so many saves.”
The Eagles, at 5-2 in the CCAA with one more game against Delta Charter in Tracy on Tuesday, May 1, were playing for a share of the league title. Millennium’s only league loss was to Elliot – a forfeit on March 20 – and the Eagles could have kept Millennium from gaining a favorable seed in the playoffs.
