Fernandez gave up five hits to Lodi, while her Tracy teammates collected 11 base hits, including Sabrina George’s bases-loaded double to drive in three runs in Tracy’s five-run sixth inning.
Brianna Warner had three hits for the day, Alee Balanon had two hits and batted in two runs, and Ellie Fisher and George each had two hits.
Kimball 5, Oakdale 1
Kimball High’s softball team earned a second-place spot in the Valley Oak League standings with a 5-1 win at home over Oakdale on Thursday, April 26.
The win assures the Jaguars (17-4 overall, 9-2 VOL) of a place in the Sac-Joaquin Section Division IV playoffs. Kimball’s win is also Oakdale’s (18-2-1, 10-1) first league loss.
The Jaguars are even with Sierra in league play with three games left in the VOL season and both Oakdale and Sierra behind them.
Starting pitcher Alexis Lopez (15-4) went all seven innings and allowed five hits and one earned run. The Jaguars collected eight hits, including Montanna Bradley’s three-run homer over the center field fence in the third inning and a double in the first. Ariana Hawkins doubled and hit an RBI triple in the fifth, Llesenia Torres singled and doubled, and Katie Hanville and Gabbi Cox also had hits.
Sophomores: Kimball 7, Oakdale 6
Alyssa Lewis hit a grand slam to highlight an early rally for the Jaguars’ win over Oakdale at home on Wednesday, April 25.
Tahnee Trew, just up from the Valley Oak League champion freshman team, helped turn three double plays and Lexie Clark took care of business in the outfield. Teams were tied at 6-6 in the sixth inning, and Gigi Vega drove in the game-winning run with a base hit in the seventh. Haley Garza pitched all seven innings for the win. It puts the Jaguars in first place with a 10-0-1 record in the VOL.
Sophomores: West 4, St. Mary’s 4
The West and St. Mary’s softball teams played to tie in seven innings on Wednesday, April 25 at Arnaiz Fields in Stockton in a game that was postponed by rain.
West (5-1-1 TCAL) scored two in the second on RBI groundouts by Kristen Wasson and Chelsea Scruton. St. Mary’s (TCAL 6-0-1) came up with two runs in the bottom of the third to tie it up. West scored two more in the top of the fifth with a sacrifice fly for Sam Asbra, followed by Zoe Gaviola’s solo home run over the left field fence to make it a 4-2 game. The Rams came back with two more runs in the bottom of the fifth.
Zoe Gaviola pitched three innings for West and allowed three hits and two unearned runs and struck out three. Kayla Lopez pitched three innings and allowed two hits and two unearned runs.
Sophomores: Tracy 18, Chavez 0
Sylvia Guasch hit a grand slam home run, and Lyndsee Cracraft hit a three-run homer to propel the Bulldogs (14-2-1, 3-2 San Joaquin Athletic Association) to a home win over Chavez on Wednesday, April 25.
Rebekah Delarosa pitched four innings and allowed one hit and two walks, and she struck out eight batters. Also getting hits for Tracy were Leilani Scanlon, Sophia Perea and Ashley Diaz, and Tracy also benefitted from 12 walks and five batters hit by pitches.
