An inmate at Deuel Vocational Institution prison in rural Tracy was sent to the hospital Wednesday, April 25, after he sustained an unknown number of stab wounds.

According to DVI officials, the inmate was attacked during a fight involving four inmates in the main recreation yard at 10:40 a.m.

DVI spokesman Lt. George Paul said one of the inmates was injured from a stabbing weapon, which was recovered by authorities. He said the injured man was listed in stable condition at a local hospital.

The three other inmates involved in the fight had superficial injuries, such as scratches, Paul said.

Paul said prison officials are not sure what caused the fight between the four inmates, adding that the investigation is in its early stages.
