Sonora grabbed a win on the road at Kimball with a three-run seventh inning on Wednesday, April 25.

The Jaguars (8-5 overall, 4-5 Valley Oak League) started with a three-run first inning on base hits from Kris Bartlett, Alec Bartlett, Zack Perugi and Rico Arias, and a single from Zack Johnson and sacrifice fly for Bartlett make it a 4-0 game for the Jaguars in the second inning.

Sonora scored once in the third inning and again in the sixth. They collected three walks and a base hit to go up by one run. Kimball got just one runner on base in the last-chance bottom of the seventh.

Perugi had two hits for the day, including a double, and Justin King also had a base hit.

Millennium 7, Big Valley Christian 6

The Millennium Falcon baseball team was able to stay undefeated in league play on Tuesday at Big Valley Christian in Modesto, but the 7-6 win over the Lions came at a cost.

Junior Gavin Compton, one of the Falcons’ batting leaders, suffered a sprained ankle in the third inning and will likely be out for few games. Millennium coach Drew Reyes said a couple other players had injured hands during the eight-inning struggle.

“They stayed in the game, but it seemed like nothing would go right for us,” Reyes said. Reyes added that while the Falcons (15-5 overall, 7-0 in the Central California Athletic Alliance) had 11 hits, twice the Millennium batters loaded the bases with no outs, but only one of those times did they get a run out of the inning.

Millennium was ahead 4-3 after the third inning. Both teams scored one in the fifth and the Lions took a 6-5 lead in the sixth. Millennium tied it up in the top of the seventh and got the go-ahead run in the eighth.

Spencer Blackwell started on the mound and pitched five innings, giving up seven hits and four runs. Austin Larson closed out the game and earned the victory, allowing three hits and two unearned runs.

Leading hitters were Drew Carroll with a single, a triple and an RBI, Austin Larson had two hits, and Kyle Murawski singled and doubled. Defensively, Reyes credits senior shortstop Daniel Yanez with the defensive plays that held Big Valley scoreless in the seventh inning.

Tracy 6, Lincoln 5

The Bulldogs baseball team keeps its place atop the San Joaquin Athletic Association standings with Tuesday’s win at Lincoln High (11-8, 6-3 SJAA) in Stockton.

Tracy (17-4, 9-1 SJAA) saw a 4-2 lead disappear with Lincoln’s three-run fifth inning, but the Bulldogs came back with two more runs in the top of the sixth to go up by one.

Tracy had 11 hits for the day, including and single and a double for Jonah Wesely, and double and two RBIs for Matt Loscavio, two hits each for Devon Denholm and Chase Johnson, and base hits for Jake Shull, Tanner Turner and Cody Daniel.

Starting pitcher John Jaeger went 4 2/3 innings, gave up six hits and five runs, two of them earned, and struck out four. Reilly Oki finished the fifth inning and got the win, and Wesely pitched the sixth and seventh innings and gave up no hits or runs.

Sophomores: Tracy 8, Lincoln 4

The Bulldog bats brought the Tracy team an 8-4 win at Lincoln on Tuesday, April 24.

Anthony Nunez’s three hits included a triple and a homer, and he drove in four runs.

“Nunez was very impressive, especially with his last at bat in the seventh inning,” said Tracy Coach Ryan Hern. “He showed a lot of discipline fouling off pitches, waiting to get just the right one. It just so happens, the right one ended up being an in the park home run with two runners on.”

Josh Brakkee singled twice and doubled, Clayton Fegett and Denholm had two hits each, and Braeden Oki, Michael Motyka, and Butcher had one hit each.

Starting pitcher Aaron Denholm went 2 1/3 innings, allowed four runs and three hits, struck out four, walked four and hit two batters. C.J. Butcher finished the game and allowed no runs, three hits, three walks and struck out eight batters over 4 2/3 innings to get the win.

Freshmen: Tracy 3, West 2

West started off with a 2-0 lead, but the Wolf Pack couldn’t hold back the Bulldogs, who had four of their seven base hits for the day in the fourth inning.

West scored when Ryan Wagner singled and Jose Hernandez reached on a fielder’s choice that had Wagner out at second. Carter Nott walked, Kyle Hunt reached on an error, and Julian Vasquez followed with a two-RBI base hit.

Tracy’s Brandon Russell and Taylor Mellick had base hits in the fourth, and Michael Brown followed with an RBI single. Mellick scored on a wild pitch, and Jacob Alvarado also had an RBI single in the fourth.

Winning pitcher was Tracy’s Brandon Russell, who went five innings, allowed five hits and struck out five batters. Alvarado got the save after he pitched two innings and struck out three.

Sonora 5, Kimball 4

Brookside Christian 5, Delta Charter 1.

The Dragons’ offense sputtered collecting only two hits and one run, and the Knights exploited four Delta Charter errors at Tracy Ball Park on Friday, April 20 for the win.

Dragons pitchers held Brookside Christian under their usual batting averages, and even though Delta Charter had runners on base in every inning but the first, they didn’t get a run across until the fifth.

Darren Silva doubled and Tyler Daugherty had a single for the Dragons’ two hits, and Andrew Silva scored Delta Charter’s lone run.

The Dragon’s were on the verge of a seventh inning comeback when Ravon Irwin hit a triple that brought in two runners, but the umpire ruled that Irwin missed first base, which result in the third out and the end of the game.
