Kimball High’s tennis players were eliminated in the early rounds of the Valley Oak League singles tournament at home on Tuesday, April 24.

The tournament is a chance for players to qualify for the Sac-Joaquin Section Division II tournament on May 3 in Roseville.

Kimball’s No. 1 and No. 2 players, Kevin Sung and Mark Dalupan, both competed Tuesday. Sung lost to Andrew Klatt of Sonora, 8-3, in the first round while Dalupan lost to Oral Nunis of Manteca High, 8-6 in the first round.

Other Jaguar players also competed in a separate division made up of lower-ranked players who were ineligible to qualify for the section tournament.

Troy Mathew won two matches, both 8-1, before he was eliminated with an 8-2 loss to Jacob Webb of Manteca. Daniel Lee won a match, 8-5, and then lost to Chris Kloska of Manteca 8-3. Amir Kabariti won his first match 8-3 and then lost to Yok Jiang Ma of Manteca 8-2. Nick Reilly won his first match 8-3 and lost to Gavin Ferris of Sonora 8-1.

Manteca High’s Mike Lopez and Nunis were the top qualifiers after they both went 3-0 on Tuesday. They will face each other in the VOL singles championship match on Thursday, April 26 at Kimball High, when the VOL doubles tournament will be also held.

On Tuesday, April 24, West freshman Alex Xu made it to the second round by beating Gus Bernadicco from St. Mary’s, 10-6. He then lost to Raymond Aguda from McNair, 10-3.

West’s Jahan Viejh lost in the first round to Andy Lin from St. Mary’s, 10-3, and West’s Ahssan Khan lost a play-in match to Ramsey Gamboa from Edison.
