The sale that puts the school’s renovated greenhouse to use began Friday, April 20, and will be open again from 3 to 5 p.m. Friday, April 27 and 9 a.m. to noon, Saturday, April 27.
Agriculture teacher Amy Schulte said the greenhouse, located near the faculty parking lot, had been out of use for some time, though she didn’t know for how long. It was brought back as part of the curriculum earlier this year after it was cleaned out and had a new automatic watering system installed.
The school’s 225 freshman-through-senior agriculture students — many of whom are members in FFA — began planting seedlings for the sale at the start of the year.
Vegetables and herbs are being sold for the first time as part of the revived West High sale, which includes the traditional floral offerings. So far, Schulte and her students said cherry tomatoes have been the most popular selection.
Multiple varieties of tomatoes, peppers and herbs are up for sale for $1.50 each.
Flowers will be sold for $1.50 for six in divided containers.
