It took extra innings for the Kimball High softball team to overcome Sierra High of Manteca by a score of 5-4 on Thursday, April 19.

The Jaguars (15-4 overall, 7-2 Valley Oak League) and Timberwolves (10-3-1, 7-2) played a back-and-forth game.

Sierra scored in the first but was denied any more runs when, with one out and runners on second and third, second baseman Llesenia Torres collected a ground ball and made the throw to Montanna Bradley at first. Bradley then threw to catcher Taylor Honnoll to catch the runner trying to score from third for the double play.

Kimball took a 2-1 lead in the second, and scored two more in the top of the fifth only to see Sierra tie it up, 4-4.

With two out in the top of the eighth, the Jaguars’ Ariana Hawkins walked and stole second. She scored the go-ahead run when Danielle Lallos singled.

Kimball starting pitcher Alexis Lopez went all eight innings and gave up four runs and seven hits for the win. Hawkins doubled and singled; Gabbi Cox had two hits and batted in a run; Danielle Lallos and Anisha Richardson both had hits and RBIs; and Sam Sanders also had a hit.

Millennium 18, Stone Ridge Christian 2

The Millennium softball team (7-2) mauled the Knights from Stone Ridge Christian High at the Tracy Learning Center on Thursday, April 19.

The Falcons went through their batting order twice in the first inning for 15 runs, while pitchers Melissa Vierra and Breana Reyes combined to strike out eight batters over four innings and give up two runs on no hits and five walks.

Reyes had three hits and batted in four runs for the Falcons, while Gabrielle Ramirez and Shayan Carpenter had two hits each, and Vierra, Angela Harry, Shawni Carpenter, Riquel Rivera, Mimi Wise, Selena Zamora and Evette Deras all had hits.

West 4, McNair 1

It took four innings for the Wolf Pack (11-8 overall, 4-1 Tri-City Athletic League) to get any action going on the base paths. But West took advantage late to roll to victory.

Amanda Riley started the bottom of the fifth with a double, followed by Janae Koski’s single and Shelby Weeks’ two-RBI triple.

Ciara Ervin also batted in a run with a base hit and Jill Anastasio hit a sacrifice grounder to score another.

Koski and Weeks each had two hits for the day, and Kasey Cota also had a hit.

McNair had four base hits total, and West’s pitchers struck out seven batters.

Sophomores: Kimball 5, Sierra 0

Thursday’s sophomore game featured fine work from Kimball starting pitcher Hailey Garza.

Garza struck out four and walked two and was backed up by a strong Jaguars defense.

The win makes Kimball 8-0-1 in the Valley Oak League, tied for first with Oakdale.

Offensive leaders included Sammy Vargas, who hit two doubles; Haley Shuey, who added a single and a double; Alyssa Lewis, who had two hits; and Garza and Megan Macias, who also had hits.

Sophomores: West 19, McNair 1

An 11-run third inning carried West (17-6 overall, 4-1 Tri-City Athletic League) to an easy win Thursday, April 19.

West had eight hits, nine walks and exploited six McNair errors to round the bases.

Samantha Asbra tripled and doubled; Zoe Gaviola singled twice; Haley Hollis and Kayla Lopez both doubled; and Danielle Roths and Alison Wesseman also had hits.

Gaviola pitched for West and gave up one run on one hit and five walks.

Freshmen: Kimball 13, Sierra 3

The Valley Oak League title belongs to the Jaguars, who defeated Sierra in six innings Thursday, April 19, to move to 14-2-1 for the season.

Tahnee Trew pitched for three innings, allowed no hits and struck out six batters. Hailey Hummel also pitched and allowed three runs, none of them earned, and walked six.

Top hitters included Kiana Schober with a triple, two RBIs and four stolen bases; Trew with a single, double, two RBIs and four stolen bases; Hailey Hummel with two hits, an RBI and four stolen bases; Brittney Lis and Matteya Cobbs with singles and four stolen bases. Sahra Tatum and Pooja Ramankutty also had hits.

Sophomores: Tracy 6, Lincoln 1

Tracy’s sophomores (13-0-1 overall, 2-0 San Joaquin Athletic Association) started off with a three-run first inning Wednesday, April 18, at Lincoln High.

Kimberly Paschal pitched all seven innings, struck out 13 batters, and allowed one hit and one run for the win. Casey Eddy-Berry had three hits, while Lyndsee Cracraft had two hits and two RBIs.

Sophomores: West 25, Edison 1

West reached base early and often on walks Tuesday, April 17, at Edison.

Danielle Roths had three hits, Chelsea Scruton and Jessica Rasmussen had two hits each, and Kayla Lopez and Haley Hollis also had hits.
