Emily Elizabeth French of Stockton is engaged to marry Nathan Edward Smith of Tracy on May 27, 2012.

Nathan, a graduate of Tracy High School and St. Bernard’s Catholic School, proposed Nov. 6, 2010, on Butterfly Beach in Santa Barbara.

The bride-to-be, daughter of Timothy and Maurine French of Stockton, works as a school psychologist in Lincoln Unified School District in Stockton. Emily graduated from Stagg High School in Stockton; completed her undergraduate studies at University of California, Santa Barbara, in 2006; and is working on a doctorate in school psychology through University of the Pacific. She is the granddaughter of Dorothy Gianelli and Joyce Mahin of Stockton and the sister of Jennifer French of Fairfield.

The groom-to-be, son of Ed and Dana Smith of Tracy, works as a firefighter in Contra Costa County. After high school, Nathan earned an associate degree from Modesto Junior College. His siblings are Nicole Smith of Tracy and Tyler Smith of Redding, and he is the grandson of Dolorita Smith of Rio Vista, the late Joseph Smith, and the late Evelyn and Delbert Magee.
