Swimming: Sierra takes two VOL wins at Kimball

Kimball High’s swim team hosted Sierra High on Thursday, with Sierra taking the team win at both varsity levels to put Kimball’s girls at 3-3 in the Valley Oak League and the boys at 2-4 in the league.

Sierra’s varsity girls beat Kimball 96-74. Top swimmers for Kimball include Michaela Loomis, who times in the 200-yard freestyle, 2:05.59, and 50-yard freestyle, 25.94, qualify her for the Sac-Joaquin Section meet in May.

Sydnie Black took first place in the 100-yard freestyle, 1:03.78, and second in the 200-yard individual medley, 2:47.70.

Also taking first place was the 200-yard medley relay team of Courtney Andres, Loomis, Black, and Julihanna Mandeville 2:09.13, and the 200-yard freestyle relay team of Mandeville, Jhackeline Romero, Fabiola Perez, and Loomis, 1:57.80.

Sierra’s varsity boys beat Kimball 91-79. Top swimmers for Kimball included Daniel Van Niekerk, who took first in the 100-yard backstroke, 1:08.88, and second in the 50-yard freestyle, 25.35. Marcus Darnell won the 100-yard breaststroke, 1:17.03, and was third in the 50-yard freestyle, 25.69, and Seth Suzuki won the 200-yard individual medley, 2:31.39.
