EDITOR,

While traveling March 27, we encountered a situation where Caltrans chose to run some kind of tests on the road bed. This occurred in a two-lane section between Boron and Barstow. Consequently, traffic was backed up for about 10 miles on either side of where they were working.

I personally feel this kind of blatant disregard for the traveling public is ludicrous on Caltrans’ part. In my opinion, there is no reason that this project could not have been done at night, when there is far less traffic.

It seems to be very poor management. The only side open was the westbound side. As a result, they would hold one direction for 10 minutes and let the other side go, and then reverse the procedure.

Caltrans expects the traveling public to respect them and give them room, and yet they show total disdain for us. How many times have you been traveling on a freeway or other road and encountered several miles of it coned off, only to not see one single work truck or any personnel. It has always been my experience that if you want respect, you have to give respect.

Maybe they were testing a new life saving added traction, glare reducing, fuel mileage extending type of asphalt and could only do it during daylight hours with heavy traffic in order to properly evaluate the new material. OH, and let a rock get kicked up and chip your windshield, and you'll be crying to Cal-Trans for their negligence in not keeping the rocks swept up. BOO HOO Crybaby.

CALTRANS DOES NOT HAVE A CLUE WHEN IT COMES TO DRIVER FRUSTRATIONS. TOLL LANE OVER SUNOL! DAYTIME SWEEPING THAT BACKS UP FREEWAYS FOR MILES!
