Coach James Herren said it was a physical game, played without some of the Avalanche’s key players, but the girls were still able to control the tempo of the game and secure the top seed for the playoffs, which begin April 2.
The Hurricanes scored the first goal of the game at the three-minute mark. The Avalanche answered with three quick goals and held a 3-2 lead at the half. The Hurricanes tied it up again four minutes into the second half, only to see the Avalanche score three more times for the 6-3 win.
Jaden Hall scored three goals for the Avalanche, Jasmine Cochiaosue scored two and Alani Gayles scored one. Isabella Saavedra, Jazmin Saavedra, Abigale Hamer and Jasmine Cochiaosue each had two assists, and Talie Contreras, Alani Gayles, Ellie Davis and Ayana Barroso also had assists.
Alani Gayles made nine saves in the goal in the first half, and Jazmin Saavedra made eight saves in the second half. Also playing defense were Abigale Hamer, Ayana Barroso, Talia Contreras and Ellie Davis.
