Basketball: All-league selections announced

All-league basketball selections for the 2011-12 season included Mountain Valley League MVP Chris Woods from Delta Charter High, plus seven more first-team selections from the Tracy area in the five leagues where local schools are represented.

Tri-City Athletic League

West High senior Jordan McIntosh was selected for the TCAL first team. He was fourth in the league in scoring, averaging 14.3 points per game during the full 2011-12 season.

Second-team players included Damon Sloan and Robert Mason. Jaylen Sanders earned an honorable mention, and Kenneth Daye made the all-defensive team. West finished the season at 22-6 overall, 8-2 and second place in the TCAL, and made the first round of the Sac-Joaquin Section Division II playoffs.

Among West’s girls, Emma Bell was selected for the TCAL first team. Nina Pritchett received honorable mention, and Diana Gonzalez was named to the all-defensive team. West finished its season at 7-19, 2-8 in the TCAL.

Valley Oak League

Kimball High freshman guard Allie Schmidt made the all-VOL first team after she finished the season as the league’s No. 4 scorer with 11.3 points per game in league play.

Also making the all-VOL list were freshman Sarah Nunes, second team; freshman Alexis Clark, honorable mention; and freshman Ayida Peters, all-defensive team.

Kimball’s girls (19-9 overall, 9-5 VOL) made the first round of the Sac-Joaquin Section Division II playoffs.

Among Kimball’s boys, Evan Owens made the all-VOL second team. The Jaguars were 11-6 for the season and 4-10 in the VOL.

Mountain Valley League

Delta Charter High School senior Chris Woods was named Most Valuable Player for the MVL. Also making the MVL first team was senior Torian Montalvo. Second-team picks were seniors Corey McClenndon and Ravon Irvin, and junior Mick Dundee earned an honorable mention.

Woods was also the team’s MVP. Deandre Ragsdale was the team’s most improved player, and Jordan Thornton received the Dragon Award.

The Dragons went 16-8 overall and 12-0 in the MVL for their second league title. They also made it to the first round of the Sac-Joaquin Section Division V playoffs.

Among Delta Charter’s girls, Emma Richardson made the MVL first team, and Marcelina Rosario received honorable mention. Richardson was the team’s MVP, Paige Valdelamar was the most improved player and Rosario received the Dragon Award.

The girls went 2-12 overall, 1-9 in the MVL, in their first season.

San Joaquin Athletic Association

Tracy High junior guard Karsi Fyfe made the all-SJAA first team, scoring an average of 11.3 points per game in league play. She was also third in the league for 3-point shots with 1.6 outside shots per game, on average, during SJAA games.

All-league honors also went to Tracy High senior Mariah Serrato, who made the second team. Junior Shelby Perry and senior Ari Grimes both received honorable mention, and Grimes was chosen for the all-defensive team.

Tracy finished the season at 12-14, and 6-4 and third place in the SJAA.

For the boys team, Tracy senior T.J. Williams was the Bulldogs’ first-team selection after he finished with an average of 19.6 points per game for the full 2011-12 season. He was also named to the all-defensive team.

Ivan Atchoukeu and Justin Phelps were SJAA honorable mentions.

The Bulldogs went 10-14 overall and 4-6 in the SJAA.

Central California Athletic Alliance

Millennium senior Daniel Yanez made the CCAA second team, and junior Mark DeWitt received honorable mention. The Falcons finished the season at 8-14, 3-7 in the CCAA. The Millennium girls finished the season at 6-15, 0-8 in the CCAA, and had no all-CCAA selections.
