Tracy Babe Ruth and Mountain House Little League opened their spring season on Saturday.

Tracy Babe Ruth saw some growth this year and includes 50 teams with more than 560 players. Teams will play at Monte Vista Middle School again this year, with teams ranging from the 4- and 5-year-old T-ball division to the 13-15 players whose next step will be high school ball.

The opening day ceremonies included introduction of the teams, and the first pitch from Col. Adrian Burke, USMC, commander of the Defense Distribution Depot, San Joaquin, who has also served in Iraq and Afghanistan. The day continued with base-running and tug-of-war contests before the start of games.

Mountain House Little League is also growing in its fifth year, with nearly 300 players on 26 teams, five more teams than last year, representing about 30 percent growth.

The league had its opening day ceremonies at Central Community Park, followed by a game between the Giants and the Angels, the league’s two Major division teams. They played to a 6-6 tie.

Seasons will continue until the leagues’ championship tournaments in June, followed by district-level all-star play in the summer.
