Tracy Fire crews drenched a small grass fire in a field off Sixth Street Monday afternoon.

The fire burned through the grass stubble near the railroad tracks between Sixth and

Fourth streets west of Central Avenue. Residents on Sixth Street reported the fire which sent a white cloud drifting toward their homes.

Two fire engines brought the fire under control quickly with a few hundred yards of grass being burned.

The dry winter has left grass brittle and fire crews are on heightened alert of the dry conditions and high fire danger.
