SJCOE basketball tryouts

WHEN: Feb. 27 through March 4

DETAILS: The San Joaquin County Office of Education will host tryouts for its new Puma Basketball teams for boys and girls in sixth through 12th grades. Teams will play in Amateur Athletic Union and North American Youth Sports tournaments starting in March. Former collegiate level basketball players will coach the kids. Girls tryouts will be from 6:30 to 8 p.m. Tuesday, Feb. 28, for sixth- through eighth-graders; Wednesday, Feb. 29, for ninth- and 10th-graders; and Thursday, March 1, for 11th- and 12th-graders. Boys tryouts will be 6:30 to 8 p.m. Monday, Feb. 27, and 10 a.m. to noon Saturday, March 3, for sixth- through eighth-graders; 5:30 to 7 p.m. Friday and 1 to 3 p.m. Saturday for ninth- and 10th-graders; and 4 to 6 p.m. Saturday and 10 a.m. to noon Sunday for 11th- and 12th-graders.

Junior Warriors Challenge Basketball sign-ups

WHEN: 2 to 6 p.m. Monday through Friday, through March 2

WHERE: Boys & Girls Club of Tracy, 753 W. Lowell Ave.

DETAILS: The Boys & Girls Club of Tracy will host sign-ups for its Challenge Basketball League for boys and girls, ages 8 through 18, with disabilities. Games will be played from 5 to 5:45 p.m. Thursdays at the club from March 22 to May 10.

Ellis Aquatics orientation, tryouts

DETAILS: Ellis Aquatics swimming and water polo club will have a parent orientation and swimmer tryout for the spring-summer swim program.

Tracy Little League opening day

DETAILS: Tracy Little League will have its opening-day ceremonies starting at 8 a.m., followed by a pancake breakfast and team photos.

THS Athletics casino night

WHEN: 7 p.m. Saturday, March 3

WHERE: Roberts Union Farm Center, 4925 W. Howard Road, in Stockton

DETAILS: Tickets are now available for Tracy High’s casino night and poker tournament. Organizers have 200 casino night tickets and 50 poker tournament tickets available. Each ticket buys $500 worth of chips, which can be redeemed at the end of the night for prizes. All proceeds support Tracy High athletics. Extra chips will be available.

COST: $35 for the casino, $50 for the poker tournament

Mountain House Challenger league

DETAILS: Mountain House Little League, which will open its fifth season March 10, will add a Challenger division this year for players with disabilities. Families should go online to the league website for registration details.

West High School cheer tryouts

WHEN: 7 to 8 p.m. Tuesdays, March 20 and April 17

WHERE: West High cafeteria, 1775 W. Lowell Ave.

DETAILS: West High students who want to try out for the 2012-13 cheer squads should attend these sessions. Parents must also attend.

Girls basketball league

WHEN: Sign-ups through March 30

WHERE: Tracy Boys & Girls Club, 753 W. Lowell Ave.,

DETAILS: The Tracy Boys & Girls Club will host a girls basketball league. Registration will be from 2 to 6 p.m. Monday through Friday until March 30. Games will be played on Saturdays from April 21 to June 9. There will also be a player clinic April 3.

COST: $60
