An eroding economy has forced at least one local nail salon to relocate business after 17 years.

Loanne and Dominic “Minh” Bui owned and operated Nails Elite at 1140 Adam St. for close to two decades. In an attempt to lower costs, the couple relocated the salon to a booth inside Allure Salon & Spa, 67 E. 10th St.

“The economy doesn’t help, and my clientele was cut down,” Loanne Bui said. “We looked to cut back expenses and signed to rent a station.”

She said the change, which took place Jan. 1, enabled the couple to lower the cost of running their own nail shop to just overseeing their own area within an established hair salon. She said the move has been sad, but also positive.

“I have mixed emotions (about leaving),” she said. “We had been there so long … like a second home. A little sad, but I’m excited about such a beautiful place, and everybody (here) is happy to work together.”

Nails Elite offers full nail service, from glitter to pedicures, by appointment. Walk-ins are also welcome. She said the salon offers anything nail related.

Nails Elite is open Monday through Saturday, 9:30 a.m. to 7 p.m.
