Tracy Republican Women meet next week

The Tracy Republican Women, a local educational and advocacy group, welcomes local residents — men as well as women — to join in the conversation during this presidential election year.

Officers were sworn in Dec. 10, and the group will kick off the new year during its next general meeting Thursday, Jan. 26. Volunteers are wanted to walk precincts to register voters for the Republican Party.

The group meets from 11:30 a.m. to 1 p.m. the last Thursday of each month at Four Corners restaurant, Chrisman and Linne roads. The first half-hour is reserved for mingling, and the official meeting begins when lunch is served at noon.

Cost for lunch is about $11. Meetings often include guest speakers.

The women of the James McDermott Unit 172 of the American Legion Auxiliary will meet at noon Tuesday, Jan. 24, at Perko’s Café, 1321 W. 11th St.

Southside group to swear in officers

A dinner next week will celebrate the newly elected board and officers of the South Side Community Organization.

A no-host bar will be opened at 6 p.m. Friday, Jan. 27, at the Guadalupe Community Center, 126 W. First St., followed by dinner at 7 p.m.

The keynote speaker will be Xochitl Paderes, a former Tracy resident and U.S. Marine Corps veteran who is running for a seat in the 13th Assembly District. Nuestra Herencia Mexicana Ballet Folklorico will also perform.

Tickets, $20 each, can be bought at El Castillo Restaurant, Central Avenue and Sixth Street, or reserved by phone.

Car enthusiasts welcome newcomers

A group of local classic car enthusiasts that meets at 6 p.m. Tuesdays invites both the owners of classic cars and folks who just enjoy the autos of yesteryear to join in the weekly gatherings.

The club assembles at Jack in the Box, northwest corner of Grant Line Road and Tracy Boulevard, and awards door and raffle prizes each week.

Soroptimists plan ‘golfless’ fundraiser

The women of Soroptimist International of Tracy will host their fourth annual Golfless Tournament in Manteca from 1 to 3 p.m. Feb. 26.

Tournament contestants will convene at Chez Shari Restaurant at Manteca Park Golf Course, 305 N. Union Road, but no golfing skills are needed — just the ability to roll dice, according to organizers.

The tournament is the main fundraiser for the local chapter, founded in 1989, which supports Soroptimist International’s mission by giving scholarships to young women and running service projects in San Joaquin County and the wider world.

Tickets are $25.
