Over three evenings, the traditional Mexican pre-Christmas celebration of Las Posadas was hosted at the Guadalupe Center on First Street, with the observance concluding Wednesday, Dec. 7. Food, piñatas and processions were elements of the event in which Christians commemorate the journey of Joseph and Mary from Nazareth to Bethlehem, seeking lodging during their ancient journey. Nightly processions re-enacted the couple’s search for places to stay, a journey that according to the Bible concluded in a manger in Bethlehem where Jesus was born. The observance was sponsored by the South Side Community Organization.
