Kimball High’s number-three player Hailey Agulay finished the Valley Oak League tournament as the winner in her singles bracket in Sonora on Tuesday, finishing a season where she went 13-1 in all of her VOL matches leading up to the tournament. She went 5-0 on Tuesday, including a final match that required a tiebreaker, which Agulay won 8-7.
It won’t advance her to the Sac-Joaquin Section Division II tournament next week, though, because the VOL had so many players at its tournament on Tuesday that it split players into two brackets, with the number-one and number-two players from each team competing for a chance to move on to the section tournament, and all other players competing in the other bracket.
Kimball’s number-one, Andrea Candalla, was eliminated 2-8 in the first round. Kimball did not have a player in the number-two or four spots. Kylie Moxley, Kimball’s number-five went three rounds in her bracket with wins of 8-1 and 8-6 and a 2-8 loss, and number-six Tavleen Takhar lost in the first round 1-8.
