The visit by the opera guild is an annual performance, in which St. Bernard’s students study for weeks to learn their lines as they step onto the stage in front of their classmates.
The version of “The Elixir of Love” performed by the students is a shortened, updated one from the original penned in1832. Students take the supporting cast roles alongside three members of the guild. Music students also make up a chorus that sings during the opera.
The opera guild travels through the Bay Area performing at different schools through the year in an effort to foster an appreciation of opera.
