West at Bear Creek

The West High water polo teams traveled to Stockton on Wednesday for pre-league matches against Bear Creek. Next up will be a Kimball vs. West matchup at Kimball High on Friday afternoon, Sept. 9. Games begin at 4 p.m. with the varsity girls.

Varsity girls: Bear Creek 11, West 7

West’s girls played strong defense and garnered multiple steals. Head Coach Jessica Lenart said that her team had just one sub on the bench, so while it was a tough game it also showed that after a couple pre-season matches the Wolf Pack girls have started to click as a team.

Heather Porter scored three goals for West, Cassidy Waters and Geraldine Vasquez scored two each and Madison Tessera scored one. Goalie Alyssa Duncan had six saves.

Varsity boys: Bear Creek 11, West 8

The Wolf Pack and Bruins played an aggressive game marked by strong defense. Matt VanNiekirk led West on offense with three goals. Zander Kraschinsky and Ken Kurita scored two each, and Brad McCain scored one. Goalie Jacob Thomassen had 12 saves.
