A new e-book program that pairs fiction and nonfiction stories for young readers is now available to San Joaquin County library patrons free of charge.

BookFlix pairs video programs with related nonfiction Scholastic e-books for kindergartners through third-graders. Pairings include “Happy Birthday Moon” with “The Moon” and “Click, Clack, Moo: Cows That Can Type” with “Let’s Visit a Dairy Farm.”

So far, the offerings include 95 nonfiction book pairings, 25 of them in Spanish. More are planned for the future to provide new content for early readers.

BookFlix has interactive features, including a read-along option with word-by-word highlighting, narration and definitions of words to help readers and English-language learners. Readers can also link to educational games, biographies and interviews to learn about new authors and explore topics in the stories.

All Stockton-San Joaquin County branch libraries have the new BookFlix feature available now. It can be accessed from home by visiting the websites for the Tracy branch or Mountain House branch and clicking on the “BookFlix” icon at the left-hand side of the page. A library card is required to use the BookFlix site.
